Congress cracks whip on 16 rebels

Oct. 8: The Congress has released a list of 16 rebels who have been suspended from the party for next six years. Congress committee general secretary and coordinator for Maharashtra Digvijay Singh announced the decision on Thursday.
“Efforts are still on to desist them from acting against the interest of the party, this action has been taken,” Mr Singh said.
The most high-profile rebel who has been suspended is former minister Sunil Deshmukh, who has filed his nomination as an Independent from Amravati against Mr Rajendra Shekhawat, son of President Pratibha Patil. Among the others who are placed under suspension include Mr Rajiv Rajale (Amravati), Mr Yashwant Bhosale (Koregaon), Mr Suresh Shinde (Man), Mr Bajarang Desai (Radhanagri), Mr Vijaysingh More (Radhanagri), Mr Babasaheb Bhos (Srigonda), Mr Haji Akbar Beig (Gangapur), Ms Laxmibai Shewale (Chandwad), Mr Uday Aher (Chandwad), Mr Chandrakant Mohite (Dapoli), Mr Milind Chimote (Amravati), Mr Ashok Dongre (Amravati), Mr Harishchandra Patil (Thane), Ms Kalpana Patil (Thane) and Mr Sandeep Gaddanwar (Brahmpuri).
